Marshmallow root is a deeply soothing and nourishing herb, well known for its high mucilage content, which helps coat and protect irritated tissues. It is particularly beneficial for soothing inflamed mucous membranes in the digestive, respiratory, and urinary systems. Its demulcent properties make it an excellent choice for easing dry coughs, acid reflux, and intestinal irritation.

Beyond internal use, marshmallow root is also applied externally for wound healing and skin hydration. Its gentle nature makes it suitable for children, the elderly, and those with sensitive systems. Traditionally, it has been used in teas, infusions, and poultices to promote overall hydration and tissue repair.

Uses:

    • Soothes and protects irritated tissues in the digestive, respiratory, and urinary tracts
    • Eases dry coughs and sore throats by coating mucous membranes
    • Supports gut health and may help with acid reflux and intestinal inflammation
    • Promotes wound healing and hydrates dry or irritated skin

    Safety Considerations:

      • Generally very safe and well tolerated
      • May slow the absorption of medications when taken at the same time, so allow at least an hour between use
      • Best prepared as a cold infusion to preserve its mucilage content

      Traditional Applications:

        • Used in European and Western herbal traditions to soothe dry coughs and digestive irritation
        • Commonly brewed into cold infusions or teas for internal hydration and tissue repair
        • Traditionally used as a poultice for wounds, burns, and dry skin conditions
